DUTIES: 

Reports to the Senior Operations Strategist. The Management Resource Centre Shift Supervisor manages the daily activities of Operations Planners with the goal of maximizing the effective deployment of planners, terminal labour, equipment and space in vessel, yard and rail operations. This position also implements and manages standard operations procedures and reviews performance against operating plans and standards for both Vanterm and Deltaport. 

  • Hire, train, manage performance, develop and coach Operations Planners.
  • Lead and participate in activities to ensure safe and efficient vessel, yard and rail operations.
  • Implement and manage standard operations procedures. Review performance against operating plans and standards.
  • Consistently attain and/or exceed productivity and cost targets. Identify opportunities to add value for our customers through efficiencies and continuous improvement.
  • Identify cost containment and revenue growth opportunities through planning efficiencies.
  • Manage performance of Operations Planners including interaction with business agents regarding discipline matters.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines, including collective agreements, in all matters including health, safety, environmental and labour relations.
  • Conduct investigations into workplace incidents and prepare reports with findings and resolutions.
  • Assume the duties and responsibilities of an Operations Strategist on a rotational or as needed basis.
  • Additional duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of all container terminal operations.
  •  Demonstrated initiative and innovation with a focus on continuous improvement.
  •  Demonstrated leadership abilities including effective conflict resolution.
  •  Demonstrated ability to work effectively within unionized environments.
  •  Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  •  Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
  •  Working knowledge of Navis / N4 and other GCT specific software preferred.
  •  Superior time management and organizational skills.
  •  Exceptional customer service orientation.
  •  Demonstrated problem solving ability.
  •  Working knowledge of safety, environmental and government regulations as they relate to employee and company compliance; personal safety, chemical handling, WHMIS and labour relations.
  •  Ability to work shifts related to 24/7 operations.

COMPENSATION:

Competitive and comprehensive compensation plan, commensurate with base and bonus eligibility.

EDUCATION:

A university degree or college diploma in business administration, commerce, logistics/transportation or related discipline and 3 years of relevant related experience; OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
