Our client, a leading asset-based carrier and high profile provider of Freight Transportation, is currently looking for a Safety Director to work for their rapidly growing organization. Providers of reliable, cost-efficient road transportation throughout North America. Their rapid growth is a result of being focused on service.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

This is a fulltime permanent role working with the leadership team to optimize safety policies and practices.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a conscientious Director of Safety to join our expanding team. This leadership "hands-on" position will help promote and achieve our best safety record. The person will work to provide various levels of support to fleet safety and regulatory compliance areas of our operations. This role will be responsible for managing both the collection and issuance of information, supporting the enforcement of company practices and policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Director of Safety, you will need to:

-Motivate all operators to follow company guidelines and safety standards, which protect employees and the organization.
-Work directly with the terminal managers in explaining and emphasizing safety measures.
-Conduct in-classroom training and identify remote training technologies to serve drivers.
-Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions.
-Provide various monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on any safety trends as required by EPA, OSHA, and CDL compliance and regulations.
-Ensures all new hires meet minimum general qualifications for each division including background and DMV checks.
-Manage all DOT Part 40 compliance for drivers.
-Manage all non-regulated drug and alcohol testing for non-driving, non-office personnel.
-Initiating and maintaining relationships with third-party administrators and collections sites.
-Ability to communicate effectively and work with all departments.
-Oversees that corporate safety incentives and programs are effective and consistent, including assignment of safety points.
-Ensures a consistent safety culture throughout the locations that incorporate operations, safety and maintenance departments and emphasizes the team approach and individual responsibility of all employees to achieve common goals.
-Investigate and review reporting of all accidents/incidents for determination of cause and prevent-ability.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

-Working knowledge of Freight forwarding industry.
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
-Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
-Good financial and business awareness.
-Strong written and verbal skills.
-Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
-Attention to detail and accuracy.
-High aptitude for technology, including a strong skill set with Microsoft Office.
-C-TPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) cross-border security experience preferred.
-Minimum five years of safety management experience preferably in transportation industry.

EXPERIENCE: In order to be COMPETITIVE for this position, you will have:

-CDS (Certified Director of Safety) and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) designation.
-CDL/AZ license preferred.
-Knowledge of all applicable safety rules, regulations - FMCSA, DOT.
-Knowledge of regulations and corporate safety programs and policies.

COMPENSATION:

Competitive and comprehensive compensation program commensurate with experience.

EDUCATION:

-College degree and five or more years of safety management experience preferably in transportation industry.
-Additional education, certification or experience may be preferred.
