THE COMPANY:

A well-established residential developer in Ottawa is looking for a Director of Construction to join their dynamic team.  This developer has over 25 years of success and growth.  This is a newly created role as a result of their accomplishments and growth, and the need to hire a strategic leader to support their continued success.  Reporting directly into the CEO, you will be responsible for managing a team of dynamic Project Managers and Planners with all aspects from design, development and construction.

This company focuses predominantly in the multi-residential sector, with some town home developments as well.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

As the Director of Construction, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage a team of Construction Managers, Superintendents, Estimators and Planners to ensure all projects meet budgets and deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with all Stakeholders, vendors and subcontractors, ensuring they all adhere to contractual obligations.
  • Coach, mentor and train staff on all aspects of a project from design and development stages, permitting, and construction through to closeout.
  • Oversee RFP and procurement stages.
  • Ensure zoning permits and approvals are obtained from the city.
  • Conduct risk assessments to ensure mitigation of any risks for the owners.
  • Recruit, attract, interview, and hire potential staff to join the organization.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals to achieve optimal performance.
  • Retain staff through positive affirmation and by introducing team building initiatives.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are complied with.
  • Ensuring all health and safety policies are followed at all times.
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing a team of 10 + individuals.
  • 3+ years experience working for a developer overseeing all aspects of a project from conception to close-out.
  • 5+years experience in residential development.
  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering or Construction Management or related Degree/Diploma.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing a team of 10 + individuals.
  • 3+ years experience working for a developer overseeing all aspects of a project from conception to close-out.
  • 5+ years experience in residential development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering or Construction Management or related Degree/Diploma.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) an asset.
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing a team of 10+ individuals.
  • 3+ years experience working for a developer overseeing all aspects of a project from conception to close-out.
  • 5+ years experience in residential development.
